CLASSESWe offer the following K-12th grade classes during our monthly co-op day:
K-5th: Speech, Collaboration, Gym 6th-8th: Speech, Collaboration, Literature Discussion 9th-12th: Bible class, Literature Discussion Collaboration - In this class, students learn communication and problem solving skills through games/projects in a group setting. Speech - Here, students practice and become comfortable conveying their ideas to an audience. Students are not graded on their speeches, but instead are video-recorded so they can later view and self-evaluate their own speeches. Gym - During gym, our K—5th graders enjoy new games and sports with other classmates. Literature Discussion - In this class, our 6th-12th graders read and discuss quality literature together. Some years include studying a play and performing the play for our families at our year-end presentation night. Students are organized into 4 groups, according to grade: Diamond League: Kindergarten-2nd grade Creator League: 3rd-5th grade Master League: 6th-8th grade High School League: 9th-12th grade CLASS DAYWe meet the second Wednesday of every month, September through May. Our classes run from 10:30am-12:45pm, with an optional time for lunch together afterwards.
One parent from each family is required to participate in the co-op day, either as a classroom teacher or helper. We keep responsibilities light and our curriculum is easy to follow, requiring minimal prep work outside of co-op. Each mom is also given a class hour to spend in prayer with other LIGHT moms to find mutual support and encouragement. |
FIELD TRIPSWe go on monthly field trips together to explore a variety of fun places throughout the Twin Cities. These field trips are optional and we do our best to keep them low cost.
Examples of past field trips include: a tour of the Anoka Post office, a behind the scenes tour of Hy-Vee, the Nutcracker ballet, Energy and U at the U of M Department of Chemistry, and the Heritage Lab at Wargo Nature Center. LOCATION
Our group meets at Elm Creek Community Church in Maple Grove, MN.
COSTThe annual cost per family is $120. This includes nursery/preschool aged siblings participating in our program, and any supply fees. The only additional cost is for field trips you attend with us throughout the year.

More Than Just a Class Day
Throughout the school year, we host additional (optional) events for the families of LIGHT to see each other:
Annual Harvest Party. This is a fun event in the fall where students can dress up as a historical figure and we enjoy a night of
hanging out and sharing a fall meal together.
Family Game Nights. Twice during the year we gather for an evening of board/card games. Each family brings a couple of their
favorite games and a snack to share.
Mom's Night Out. Every other month we have a night out for just the moms. We've done escape rooms, coffee dates, outreach events,
bon-fires, crafts and more.
Presentation Night. Towards the end of the school year (usually in April), we host an evening where students get to present to the parents about a topic they are interested in or
have been working on throughout the year. Set up in a science fair type format, parents can tour each station and ask students questions. The end of the night is capped off by the Master League performing a scene from the play they have studied that year in Literature.
